Collection: Corsair Cases

Which Corsair case do you actually need?

Most PC builders overthink the case and underthink airflow. With Corsair, the range splits into three tiers, and the real differences are mesh area, fan quality, internal layout and cable routing depth, not just price.

At the entry end you have something like the 3000D Airflow. It's a compact, mesh-fronted steel mid-tower with decent intake, but the interior is tighter, so cable management takes patience and long GPUs or thick radiators get awkward. It suits a mainstream CPU and a mid-range graphics card without trouble.

The sweet spot is the 4000D Airflow family. The front panel is a high-perforation mesh with minimal restriction, there's a proper cable routing channel behind the motherboard tray, and the roof and front take 360mm radiators. That means a 360mm AIO is realistic, not theoretical. The RS-ARGB variants add pre-fitted RS fans, which are fluid dynamic bearing designs with decent static pressure.

Enthusiast cases like the 5000D Airflow, 6500X and 7000D bring more volume, more radiator mounting points and often dual-chamber layouts that hide the PSU and cables. More space lowers noise because fans can spin slower, but the thermal gain over a good 4000D Airflow is small unless you're running a hot flagship GPU and a high-wattage CPU together. That's where diminishing returns kick in.

Upgrading and technical nuances

Modern platforms change what you should look for in a case. AM5 and LGA1851 boards are mostly standard ATX, mATX or ITX, so form factor support is rarely the issue. Look closer at GPU length, cooler height and whether you want a back-connect board layout. Some newer Corsair designs, like the 2500X and 2500D Airflow, are made around hidden-connector motherboards, which is great for tidy builds but narrows your Motherboards choice.

Current-gen CPUs run hot at stock and boost hard, so cooling headroom matters. A 4000D Airflow handles a dual-tower air cooler such as the Thermalright Peerless Assassin comfortably, and a 360mm Arctic Liquid Freezer or Corsair iCUE LINK AIO fits in the roof or front. Browse CPU Cooling and Fans, Heatsinks & Cooling before you commit to a case, because radiator thickness plus fan depth can collide with tall RAM.

Which fans come in the box matters more than people expect. Cheap fans use sleeve bearings that get noisy as lubricant migrates, while fluid dynamic and magnetic levitation designs stay quieter over time. Corsair's iCUE LINK cases use a daisy-chained fan system, which cuts cable clutter but ties you to that ecosystem. Standard PWM fans keep things flexible.

For GPUs, today's flagship cards are physically huge and draw serious power through the 12V-2x6 connector. Check the case's maximum GPU length against the card, and allow room for the cable to run straight out before bending. Browse Graphics Cards / GPU specs and compare their length and thickness figures with the case's listed clearance.

Practical things to check before buying

Start with measurements. Corsair lists clearance for GPU length, CPU cooler height and PSU length, and you should treat those as hard limits. The 4000D family handles a cooler up to roughly 170mm, which covers most dual-tower coolers but not every oversized one. Add radiator thickness, fan thickness and your RAM height if you're mounting a front or top AIO. Tall kits from Desktop Memory can foul a top radiator on some boards, so low-profile Vengeance or Kingston Fury modules are safer there.

Next, power delivery. A modern ATX 3.1 unit with a native 12V-2x6 cable is the cleanest option, and many mid-tower PSU shrouds suit ATX units up to about 200 to 220mm deep. Have a look through Power Supplies or the ATX Power Supply range, and consider Corsair RMx or Seasonic Focus units. Also check whether your cables are long enough. In larger cases, especially dual-chamber ones, a short EPS cable can be a nasty surprise. Extensions and sleeved options are in Cables & Connectors.

Think about storage too. Many Corsair cases offer only a few 2.5-inch mounts, and fast PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 NVMe drives live on the board anyway. A Samsung 990, Crucial T500 or WD_BLACK drive from Solid State Drives (SSD) needs a heatsink with sensible clearance, especially under a large GPU. Gen 5 drives run hot, so make sure airflow reaches the M.2 area.

Finally, think about noise and dust. Mesh fronts breathe well but let in dust, so check whether the case includes filters you can remove without tools. Tempered glass panels look good but need proper thumbscrew handling and a flat surface when you're building. If you want a ready-made option, Computers has pre-built systems, and Computer Cases lets you compare everything side by side.

Brands and local warranty

Corsair is the obvious name here, but when you're comparing options it's worth also looking at Lian Li, NZXT, Fractal Design and Phanteks. Each has its own take: Lian Li leans on aluminium builds, Fractal on quiet-first design, NZXT on clean looks. Corsair's strength is ecosystem consistency, with fans, AIOs, PSUs and RAM all sharing iCUE software and compatible hardware.

Warranty is where buying locally pays off. A genuine Australian warranty means that if a panel arrives bent, a hinge fails or a fan dies, you deal with a local RMA process instead of paying for international freight. Under Australian Consumer Law, retailers must also remedy faulty goods regardless of what the manufacturer says. Grey imports can void local support, so check the seller is an authorised reseller and keep your invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 4000D Airflow still a good choice for a modern build?

Yes. The mesh front, 360mm radiator support and large GPU clearance suit most current-gen builds. It only struggles with the biggest flagship GPUs or very thick coolers, and in those cases a 5000D is the safer step up.

Do I need an expensive case for better temperatures?

Not really. Temperatures depend more on mesh area, fan quality and fan curve than on price. A well-ventilated mid-tower often beats a premium glass-fronted case that starves its intake.

Will a 360mm AIO fit in my Corsair case?

Often, yes, but check which mounting position the manual lists. Front and top mounts have different clearances, and RAM height or VRM heatsinks on the motherboard can block the top position.

Are iCUE LINK cases worth the extra cost?

They're worth it if you want fewer cables and unified lighting and fan control. If you prefer swapping fans freely or using standard PWM headers, a non-LINK case is simpler and cheaper.

Can I fit a modern GPU with a 12V-2x6 cable without bending it sharply?

Usually, if you check side-panel clearance first. Leave enough room for the cable to leave the connector straight, and use an angled adapter or a native ATX 3.1 cable if space is tight. Never force the side panel closed against the connector.
